Foundations for Graduates Program

At BHP Billiton we understand that recruiting, developing and retaining talented graduates is key to our success, and vital to delivering on our impressive project pipeline.

Graduates are attracted to BHP Billiton by the opportunity to work at an industry leading, global business and by our overriding commitment to professional and technical development. We understand that to be successful, our graduates need exciting and real life work experience.  In addition, we provide a program that is tailored to both their development requirements and the industry, with a platform from which our graduates can launch a global career in the resources sector.

Our commitment to graduate development is reflected in our Foundations for Graduates program. The program’s objective is to set a firm foundation for a graduate’s career through learning about themselves, their team and our organisation. Partnering with world class education institutions, our Foundations program is delivered in a professional business school environment by subject matter experts in two languages across three continents.

Graduates join BHP Billiton with a strong set of technical skills, and the program also aims to supplement these skills with the additional people and management skills needed to help graduates make strategic decisions, work with people from different backgrounds and to influence others. The Foundations program also provides a forum to create strong social and peer networks both domestically and internationally.

The BHP Billiton Foundations for Graduates program is an integrated program that has been designed with our Gen Y graduates in mind. It includes extensive business and behavioural development opportunities and complements related BHP Billiton graduate development initiatives including induction, on the job experience, rotations and mentoring/coaching. The program spans two years and includes real world projects that will significantly enhance the overall understanding of company operations, improve project management and team building skills, whilst also providing an opportunity for business improvement and innovation.
